The International Papillomavirus Society is formally incorporated as a not-for-profit organization of biomedical scientists who are investigating human and animal papillomaviruses and their associated diseases.
It serves as the organizational structure for the field of scientists and physicians who have met since 1975, and regularly since 1982 in the U.S. and 12 other countries. The purposes of the IPVS are primarily educational.
The mission of the International Papillomavirus Society is to facilitate research on human and animal papillomaviruses and their associated diseases, and to promote the translation of research results into new clinical applications and public health policies.
IPVS serves as the organizational structure for the field of biomedical scientists and physicians engaged in all manner of papillomavirus research and promotes translational research involving basic and clinical scientists as well as epidemiologists and public health workers at academic, governmental and corporate laboratories and hospitals.
The society maintains a
website for professional communication and public education, and provides a membership directory and services.
IPVS and its members foster the careers of new investigators through training, opportunities for collaboration, and funding of travel fellowships to the conferences and workshops. It provides the primary oversight for the IPV Conferences and coordination of fund raising and maintenance of the membership and general announcement lists for these meetings. It also is a staunch advocate for additional HPV research, public awareness of HPV diseases and opportunities for prevention and management, and international education.
